Tsunami π
Sri Lanka is a country prone to natural disasters. The 2004 tsunami in Sri Lanka was one of the most devastating natural disasters in the country's history. It was caused by a powerful undersea earthquake off the coast of Sumatra in the Indian Ocean on 26 December 2004.π
At that time , Sri Lanka 's early warning system was still very basic. As a result , without warning , massive waves hit the coastal areas , killing thousands of people π and seriously injuring many others. Houses , school and buildings were completely destroyed, and many families were left homeless π π. Coastal towns and villages were severely affected by the disaster.
The tsunami also caused a tragic train accident near the coast , which killed many passengers. The people faced this difficult time with great strength and unity. This incident left an important message about disaster preparedness for Sri Lanka after the disaster. Every year , we observe a moment of silence on that day to remember the lives lost.π₯π
